Reject Executive Presence

Who exactly is executive presence for? I can’t find myself in that term.

You know exactly what you want to say you just need to access it.

You communicate perfectly well when you’re comfortable.

When you’re at ease, you don’t think about finding the right words. You don’t think about thinking!

When you’re comfortable, you don’t critique yourself while speaking.

It’s not you. It’s systemic.

Maybe you got some feedback. Maybe you have nerves that pop up out of nowhere. Maybe you’re in a toxic work environment.

No matter what, overworking is making it harder to speak with ease.

Every day I hear from people who believe there’s something wrong with the way they communicate and this perpetuates patterns that take away their ability to be present.

My only job is to convince you that there’s nothing wrong with your voice.

Because when you trust your voice, you can be present and at ease. When you’re present and at ease, you know exactly what you want to say.

You don’t need to find your voice. You need to trust your ability to access your voice.

Believing that you have to “work” on your communication centers the anxiety and takes away your ability to trust yourself.

Imagine not having to “work” on your communication or impromptu speaking?

I’ve worked with thousands of people over the past ten years and I find that most of us are struggling to speak up (relative to our own privilege and power, of course).

And that the shame, secrecy, and stigma that comes with struggling to speak is what gets in the way of speaking with ease.

Let’s reject executive presence and dissect any distracting or destructive feedback you’ve received so that you can refocus your attention on your perspective.

Reclaim your confidence. Reclaim your voice. It’s yours and no one can take it from you.
